Our Love Story
Moani and Marina met in 2023 when she was in Alaska for Hōkūle'a's launch at the start of the Moananuiākea voyage. Marina joined the Hōkūle'a crew for a few months and spent time on the escort boat and in communities around Southeast, Alaska with Moani. They journeyed from Juneau to Angoon, Angoon to Kake, Saxman to Metlakatla and then finally from Metlakatla to Marina's home island, Prince of Wales Island.
Moani and Marina's relationship is an example of how the ocean connects us and is deeply engrained in their cultures.
